Callings
All members of the perpetual society must choose a calling. There are 8 main callngs, as well as the 'no-calling' calling, the rook. Although choosing a calling is not required immediatly, everyone must choose a calling once they are 'uplifted' in a pride.
Keepers
Keepers are responsible for protecting their Pride's body and soul from all adversaries, even the most relentless foe of all - time. Experts at security, they are often bodyguards and escorts for important Pride members. Their most visible function is the protection of Pride possessions and holdings but this is not their most important task. Their most sacred obligation is the preservation of their Pride's rituals, history, and traditions. What good is a Pride that lacks the cohesion to act as a whole?
Keepers are taught the Vogue Argus (rank 1), allowing them to alarm and sense objects. Additionally they learn Wakefullness, which allows a Keeper to operate without sleep indefinatly. Keepers thus only need to sleep when they choose, or never at all.
Slayers
Slayers are the front line troops against minions of the Sanguinary. Slayers are the only Calling exempt from the Pandect against slaying, and hence slayers are called in on operations that require the destruction of an Immortal. The sight of a Slayer causes tension in many Immortals for this very reason. This Calling's heavy emphasis on combat makes them the undisputed masters of battlefield tactics.
Slayers are taught the Vogue Diadem (rank 1) allowing them to create false ripples to attract the attention of the Droves. Additionally they learn the secret of Awareness, preventing them from ever being surprised in battle.
Highbinders
Highbinders specialize in the retrieval of lost or stolen items through whatever means necessary; it is not uncommon for a Highbinder to take by force what he cannot win through negotiations. The items a Highbinder may be required to retrieve can be as commonplace as a Talisman or as exotic as a traitorous Pride member. They are also used to rescue kidnaped Pride members or extract them from dangerous situations. Highbinders are often required to display a great flexibility and ingenuity in the execution of their assignments. They maintain a healthy amount of respect for Keepers of other Prides, their eternal adversaries in the Stratagem.
Highbinders are taught the Vogue Dowser (rank 1) allowing them to find things anywhere. Additionally they learn Owner, which allows them to learn the true owner of any item touched.
Jugglers
Through a combination of truth, half-truth, and carefully concealed falsehoods, Jugglers work to define reality. They control and disseminate information to advance the goals of their Pride. The Juggler Calling is the one primarily responsible for controlling the Twilight media and government systems. Jugglers also control individuals and events by manipulating the threads of loyalty and association that bind them together. Jugglers' manipulations of fact often put them at odds with Probes of other Prides.
Jugglers are taught the Vogue Impulse (rank 1) allowing them to plant thoughts in the minds of mortals and immortals alike. Additionally they learn the gift of the Name, which allows the user to learn a person's name on sight, as well as recall it when necessary.
Probes
Probes constantly supply their Pride with incredibly detailed intelligence regarding everything and anything; while some Probes are sedentary researchers piecing together ancient facts from forgotten tomes and folios, others are consummate spies who remain deep undercover for years at a time. Probes concentrate on harvesting all available information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, on the chance that it might one day be useful. Probes provide the vital information upon which critical Pride decisions are based.
Probes are taught the Vogue Minutia (rank 1) allowing them see details hidden to most people. Additionally they learn Truth, preventing any immortal of lower Visage from lieing to them.
Scourges
Scourges, much like Keepers, help maintain cohesion within their Pride. Scourges educate and imbue a sense of culture and unity in young Immortals through whatever means necessary, up to and including corporal punishment. The best Scourges are harsh but fair teachers, using pain sparingly and only as a means to an end. Some even function as bringers of justice, meting out whatever punishment has been decided fair by the guilty Immortal's superiors. Scourges are masters of Twilight and Immortal psychology, making them excellent psychologists and torturers.
Scourges are taught the Vogue Orisha (rank 1) allowing them Additionally they learn ? (Suggestions anyone?)
Sleepers
Masters of the Morpheum, members of the Sleeper Calling must possess incredibly protean minds and personalities. Most Immortals are not comfortable spending extended periods of time in a place whose fundamental characteristics are constantly in flux; because of this it is said the Sleeper Calling chooses its initiates as much as they choose it. From within the Morpheum, Sleepers reshape Twilights' subconsciouses through dreams and conduct raids against minions of the Sanguinary. Most importantly, Sleepers study the Twilights' dreams and psyches for hints about the actions of the Sanguinary itself.
Sleepers are taught the Vogue Somnus (rank 1) allowing them to enter the dreams of twilights and immortals alike. Additionally they learn Morpheus allowing them to enter the Morpheum without being detected.
Emissaries
Emissaries are the glue that holds the Perpetual Society together. They act as couriers, negotiators, mediators, project coordinators, diplomats, and - most importantly - translators of not just messages but the intent behind them. They facilitate communication between the dizzying array of cultures and belief systems present in the Perpetual Society.
Emissaries are taught the Vogue Xenoglossia (rank 1) allowing them to communicate their message with anyone. Additionally they learn to activate the vault of the mind, allowing them to store certain thoughts so that no one can access them telepathically without the users consent. 3 thoughts/messages can be stored per red halo.
Rooks
While Rook is not a real Calling, Rooks still perform valuable duties within their Pride. They orchestrate the symphony of everyday tasks necessary to keep their Pride functioning. Without Rooks, the Stratagem would not exist because members of the other Callings would be too busy handling day to day chores to garner Visage. Because of the critical but non-confrontational role Rooks play, they are exempt from the Visage system.
Rooks are taught the Vogue Chevron (rank 1) allowing them avoid conflict by appearing more threatening then they are.
Note
There is considerable overlap between all of the Callings. This overlap exists because of the relatively low total number of Immortals in the Prides and because of the vast number of skills an Immortal acquires over a lifetime. An Immortal's Calling is what they do best and are most suited for; it is not the only job they can perform.
